ARTIST:  BARBARA HANDY              MEDIUM :  POLYMER CLAY  &  PAPER

Barbara discovered the wonders of polymer clay about 15 years ago while watching a craft show on TV.  It was instant love.  She is self taught and continually searches for new techniques in books, magazines, online and with lots of experimentation.  Polymer clay is a man-made modeling compound that bakes at a low temperature, so no special equipment is required.  In recent years it has become an acceptable fine art medium with major museum shows increasing every year.  Although Barbara makes many different types of items from polymer clay she loves making beads and then turning them into unique pieces of jewelry.  A few years ago she made a special bracelet, for an event chairperson, from handmade paper beads.  The paper used was from the brochure and invitation from the event and made beautiful beads.  Everyone loved the bracelet so much she started making paper beads in addition to polymer clay beads.    A dedicated studio in her home allows her to occasionally teach.   Barbara has been active in the Havasu Art Guild for 9 years and has held several offices.  She shows and sells her work at local art/craft shows and several local shop including Havasu Art Center and the Balloon Festival Store.  Two online etsy shops keep her busy shipping all over the world.  Check them out - BarbiesBest@etsy.com (beads) and MyStudio91@etsy.com (jewelry, accessories & misc).    Please feel free to contact her with any questions or a tour of her studio.
